Mothering across Borders is a dialogue series designed for foreign mothers who are mothering a baby aged 12 months or younger in Utrecht and its surroundings. During the dialogue sessions relevant professional and academic knowledge will be shared by academics from Utrecht University. This will be followed by group dialogue where we invite you to reflect on the different challenges and insights you experience as a foreign mother, in a judgment-free space.
Mothering across Borders dialogue is about connecting on a deeper level with yourself, your baby and other mothers who share the same experiences, dilemmas and aspirations.
Topics will include:
- What does it mean to mother a child in a foreign country.
- How to raise a baby in a multi-lingual environment.
- Parenting styles and managing cultural differences.
- Balancing identities (woman, partner, mother, employee) and work & life balance.
The group discussion and reflections will be facilitated by two trained dialogue facilitators who have also personal experience with the topic. The participation in the dialogue is free of charge however in order to have an in-depth conversation and to build the trust needed for the group discussion, we expect from you as a participant to attend and participate in all the dialogue sessions.
This project is a collaboration between Parenting Across Borders (social initiative) and Dr. Özge Bilgili (UU) and funded by Utrecht University.
